TAMALE, GHANA - The West African Centre for The Protection of Animal Welfare (WACPAW), a registered charity organization (Registration number CG 059422016 and National Non-Profit License number DSW/7881), is leading the charge in advocating for the compassionate treatment of animals across West Africa.
Since its inception in October 2016, WACPAW has been committed to reducing animal suffering and pain caused by humans. The organization focuses on the treatment of animals in farms, markets, during transfer, and slaughter. WACPAW’s cause is founded on the fact that many animals are treated inhumanely, both knowingly and unknowingly, resulting in unnecessary pain and suffering.
Vision and Mission
WACPAW envisions a world where animals are respected and their welfare protected. The organization’s mission is to relentlessly champion the welfare of animals through training, education, research, and effective collaboration with key stakeholders in Africa and globally.
Objectives
WACPAW aims to:
1. Collaborate with research institutions to encourage and facilitate research on improving the welfare of food and pet animals.
2. Provide a platform for training and knowledge exchange on best practices to farmers, veterinarians, animal handlers, slaughter men, and other key stakeholders in the livestock sector.
3. Engage governments and other welfare charities to formulate and implement animal welfare regulations.
4. Collaborate globally with animal charities and research institutions to share information that may lead to the improvement in the welfare of food and pet animals.
5. Encourage the use of humane slaughter and killing methods of animals for disease control or human consumption.
6. Work with governments and other key stakeholders to protect wild and marine lives.
Operational Approach and Coverage
WACPAW uses research, training, education, and advocacy as tools and strategies to achieve its objectives. The organization operates across thirteen West African countries, with the majority of its operations concentrated in Ghana. Plans are far advanced to start operations in other West African countries.
Support WACPAW
The activities of WACPAW are financed by generous donations from the public and charities. The organization is always looking for funders and sponsors who are able to donate towards their cause. Without your support, WACPAW is unable to function.
