The National Democratic Congress (NDC) has accused Brigadier General Michael Opoku, General Officer Commanding Central Command of the Ghana Armed Forces, of masterminding an election-rigging scheme in the Ashanti Region for the 2024 polls.
According to NDC Communications Officer Sammy Gyamfi, the officer's recent promotion was part of a strategy to favor the New Patriotic Party (NPP).
Gyamfi claimed Opoku had been promised the role of Chief of Defence Staff should the NPP win.
Allegations include training thugs disguised as military personnel to intimidate voters and manipulate ballot results.
The NDC also referenced his involvement in the 2019 Ayawaso West Wuogon violence as evidence of his complicity.
