Dr. Dominic Ayine, former Deputy Attorney General and MP for Bolgatanga East, has suggested a controversial "shoot on sight" policy to combat illegal mining (galamsey) in Ghana.

He proposed using drones equipped with assault capabilities to target individuals mining near water bodies, arguing this radical approach might help stop the environmental destruction.

However, Dr. Mensa-Bonsu, an Ashesi Law professor, cautioned against the idea, warning that drones could kill innocent people due to their inability to discern between criminals and bystanders.
