Assault on JoyNews crew: Six charged in court, five others at large

Six employees of Edelmetallum Resources Limited appeared before the Bekwai Circuit Court in the Ashanti region for allegedly assaulting a Joynews team investigating illegal mining at Manso Asumenya.

The accused—Felix Amankwah, Akwasi Frimpong, Frederick Afful, Josuah Ofori, Mumumi Musah, and Daniel Appiah—along with five other suspects still at large, are charged with assault, conspiracy, and theft.

The crew members, including Erastus Asare Donkor, were reportedly abducted, beaten, and robbed of equipment, including a valuable memory card.

Judge Isaac Appiatu granted bail at GH₵100,000 with two sureties, requiring the accused to report weekly to the police.

The case is adjourned to December 13, 2024.
