Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) presidential candidate, has promised to prioritize solar energy as part of his plan to reduce Ghana's electricity costs.
Speaking during his campaign tour in Asante Akim South on November 16, 2024, Bawumia highlighted that the current high cost of electricity is due to reliance on imported oil and gas for power generation.
He proposed the establishment of solar farms in all districts to take advantage of the country's abundant sunlight, aiming to cut electricity bills by 50%.
Additionally, Bawumia pledged to support businesses and reduce household overhead expenses.
