Mahama justifies proposal to cancel food supply to SHSs

John Mahama, NDC's presidential candidate, has defended his proposal to end the central supply of food to Senior High Schools (SHSs) through the National Food Buffer Stock Company.

He plans to decentralize food purchases as part of his Free SHS policy review.

Mahama referenced allegations by North Tongu MP Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa that 22,000 bags of expired rice were distributed to SHSs in February. Ablakwa accused the Buffer Stock Company and Lamens Investments Africa Limited of orchestrating the scheme.

Speaking in Asawinso during his Western North campaign, Mahama criticized the system, stating, “Schools will directly receive funds to buy food themselves, avoiding such issues.”
