Nana Obiri Boahen, a Deputy General Secretary of the New Patriotic Party (NPP has stated that the decision of President Akuffo Addo to suspend the referendum was legally, morally and politically right.

His assertion comes in the wake of calls from sections of the public that the President was wrong in calling off the referendum and a result of that, the President should be impeached for breaching the constitution.

He said it was time that the country elected Metropolitan, Municipal District Chief Executives (MMDCE’s) for people to think outside the box to generate more income for the development of the nation.

According to him currently, some of the MMDCE’s did not need common fund but rather those funds should be given the deprived ones who were struggling items of income generation.

He said those with much resources should only get little help from the central government.

Nana Obiri Boahen noted that the country was growing and Ghana had to grow in terms of governance by electing MMDCEs.

He said although he was in the NPP, he was not happy with the suspension because he embarked on vigorous campaign for a YES vote during the referendum.
