Section of Ghanaians divided on District Elections

A section of the citizenry are divided on whether to exercise their franchise in the upcoming District Level Elections or not.

To some, it is their constitutional right, while some also say they do not know enough about the candidates, with others maintaining that it is not worth it.

The Ghana News Agency picked various opinions from legible voters in the Tema West Constituency during an interview.

Mr Evans Atta Eduah, an Evangelist said it was his constitutional right to cast his ballot for his favourites to become Assembly members and Unit Committee Members.

He explained that that the election could development their commmunity as the assembly members and the committee members could be reached to help push development.

Mr Eduah said his constituency had no government hospital and believed that when they were voted into power, they would facilitate to bring that need in the community.

“Since we live in the same community with them, they can be consulted in times of security challenges, for instance, where committee members can be alerted when one finds people of suspicious characters and fish them out.”

Madam Agartha Duruye, a trader complained that she wanted to vote, but did not know the candidates and what they intended to bring in the community because they did not market themselves well.

Ms Victoria Bafloe, a teacher was contemplating voting or not, as that day would not be a holiday and he had to go to work.

Mrs Agnes Duah, a housewife said the electoral process had become partisan in that instead of focusing on the development of the Community, they would "enjoy" with their cronies after being voted into power.

Others also told GNA that they had not factored that into their plans, never voted in the district elections before and that it would be a waste of their time.
