Anti-LGBTQI+ bill: Supreme Court to decide on interlocutory injunctions July 17

The Supreme Court will rule on July 17, 2024, regarding two lawsuits filed by journalist Richard Dela Sky and researcher Dr. Amanda Odoi against Parliament's passage of the anti-gay bill.

Sky challenges the bill's constitutionality, claiming it breaches the 1992 constitution and fundamental human rights.

Dr. Odoi seeks to prevent the bill's transmission to President Akufo-Addo, arguing it imposes a charge on public funds without a fiscal impact analysis, violating Article 108.

Chief Justice Gertrude Torkornoo stated the cases would not be consolidated. The Attorney-General and Parliament's counsel have both called for the dismissal of Dr. Odoi's application.
