Private legal practitioner Martin Kpebu has called for reforms in appointing Supreme Court justices, criticizing both the NPP and NDC for selecting allies, which influences court decisions.

Speaking on TV3 on November 16, he said this approach leads to rulings aligned with the appointing government’s philosophy.

Kpebu’s comments followed a Supreme Court ruling overturning Speaker Alban Bagbin’s declaration that four MPs’ seats were vacant for contesting as independents in 2024.

By a 5-2 majority, the court ruled such actions unconstitutional, stating MPs only forfeit seats if they switch parties during the current parliamentary session.

This decision reinstates NDC MPs to Minority status, ending a parliamentary stalemate.
