Parliament must resolve issues without court injunctions – Kwadwo Mpiani

Kwadwo Mpiani, former Chief of Staff under President Kufuor, has voiced his opposition to court injunctions on Parliament, suggesting they could disrupt parliamentary operations.

Speaking on Joy FM, Mpiani argued that issues within Parliament should be settled internally, with any decisions open to later court review if needed. He cautioned that allowing court interventions might lead to recurring legal disruptions of parliamentary work.

Mpiani's comments come after Alexander Afenyo-Markin sought a Supreme Court injunction to counter Speaker Alban Bagbin’s declaration of four parliamentary seats as vacant—a move later deemed unconstitutional by a 5-2 Supreme Court decision.

Mpiani advised Parliament to embrace dialogue and Speaker Bagbin to respect the court's ruling, emphasizing that internal consensus is vital to effective governance.
