The Supreme Court of Ghana has ruled in a 5-2 decision that Speaker Alban Bagbin’s declaration of four parliamentary seats as vacant is unconstitutional.
At a brief session on November 12, Chief Justice Gertrude Torkornoo announced the ruling, stating that the declaration by the Speaker could not stand.
The full explanation for the decision will be released on November 13.
Speaker Bagbin initially declared the seats vacant on October 17, impacting MPs Peter Yaw Kwakye Ackah (Amenfi Central), Andrew Amoako Asiamah (Fomena), Kojo Asante (Suhum), and Cynthia Morrison (Agona West).
