Minority vows to boycott Parliament until after elections following Supreme Court ruling

The National Democratic Congress (NDC) Member of Parliament for Odododiodoo, Edwin Nii Lante Vanderpuye, announced that the minority caucus will not return to Parliament until after the December elections.

This decision comes after a Supreme Court ruling overturned Speaker Alban Bagbin’s declaration of four parliamentary seats as vacant, a move challenged by the majority caucus.

The court's decision, which sided with Alexander Afenyo-Markin, disputed Bagbin’s authority to bypass judicial review on the matter, prompting a recall attempt from the NPP majority.

Vanderpuye criticized the recall as “unnecessary spending” of taxpayer funds, reaffirming the NDC's focus on election preparations. He emphasized that the balance of power in Parliament will only be clarified once members reconvene, asserting the minority’s stance on internal procedures over judicial definitions of majority status.
