Assent anti-gay Bill – Catholic Bishops tell Akufo-Addo

President Akufo-Addo President Akufo-Addo

The Ghana Catholic Bishops’ Conference has called on President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo to promptly assent to the Proper Human Sexual Rights and Ghanaian Family Values Bill, commonly known as the Anti-Gay Bill.

Speaking at their Annual Plenary Assembly in Obuasi from November 8–16, 2024, the Bishops criticized the President's delay, dismissing his reasons as "mere excuses."

They emphasized the bill aligns with Ghana’s moral and cultural values and preserves the sanctity of traditional family structures.

The bill, passed by Parliament in February 2024, remains unsigned as the Supreme Court reviews its constitutionality following legal challenges.

The court's July ruling delayed further judgments until related cases are resolved.

The Bishops reaffirmed their commitment to upholding Christian and cultural values while urging swift action.
